Zidane
What was up with that Zidane head butt (videolink)? I didn't catch the game but by all accounts Z screwed up in a royal fashion. Tie score...World Cup Final... his last game...heading for a shootout for which his participation is critical...melt-down=head butt. Great moment for soccer, nice cherry on the top of his career highlights reel and a nation goes in full blown depression...priceless. This sounds like something out of the crypt of the "86" Red Sox.

I think Zidane's head-butt was crazy-cool!
Materazzi is talking sh*t to him and Zidane just smiles, jogs in front of him and *BAM*!!! He gets all big-horn-sheep on him!
Seriously, I heard Materazzi's comment was racist (or anti-muslim, in a racist sort of way). Zidane realized if he did something extreme, he'd put the SERIOUS problem of racism in soccer in the front pages where it belongs.
Probably shouldn't have done it though... you know, with France missing a PK and all.
The comment by Materazzi (if lip readers are accurate) was obviously way beyond acceptable trash talking stanards and in retrospect may shine a light on the pervasive racism in world soccer...but I don't think our man Zidane was processing info in that much detail when he pulled his "running of the bulls" move. He could have won the game and kicked the guys ass later, a win-win which would have made an entire nation of tradional losers happy. I can relate being a BoSox fan from birth.
